A new skyscraper in the US has surpassed the previous record holder, a 70-storey office building in New York City, by an average of a whopping 9.6 metres.
Mays Landing apartment building is on the top of the world for the fourth consecutive year, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, breaking the previous title holder, the 77-storeys Shard in London, by more than 3.5 metres.
Its latest record comes after the city of New York announced on Tuesday that the tallest residential building in America is the 80-storeyd New York Times building, which is also the tallest in the state of New Jersey.
The building was completed in 2014, and is the third tallest building on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
The Guinness Book’s list of tallest buildings in the United States is published every five years.
The New York skyscraper is taller than the Shard, the second tallest building ever constructed, by nearly 3 metres.
The tallest building to ever be built in New Zealand was the 78-storeym Mt Wellington, which was completed last year.
The Auckland-based building is also one of the tallest buildings on Earth.
According to the World’s Tallest Buildings website, the average height of a skyscraper rises to over 10 metres in the case of skyscrapers, and more than 20 metres in many other types of buildings.
Mills Landing, in Brooklyn, New York, is the seventh-tallest building in terms of height, with an average height (feet) of 8.7 metres.
The building is currently under construction.
