What if the world was actually a video game?
What if there were an entire city on Mars?
If you think the answer is yes, you’re in for a surprise.
This week, a team of researchers led by researchers from Oxford University have created a game based on the idea that the moon and its surrounding planets are actually real.
The team at Oxford University is hoping that this game will spur more research into the topic, which has already attracted attention in the scientific community.
In the words of the team: “The idea of a virtual world based on video games is very appealing, especially in the face of a growing interest in video games and virtual reality.”
“We wanted to bring this idea to life through a new and unique form of gameplay,” said James M. Rugg, the lead author of the paper and an Oxford University graduate student.
“This is the first time we’ve ever used a video-game as a way of testing the feasibility of this idea, and we hope that other researchers will follow suit.”
The team is now working to find out more about how this could be used in real-world scenarios.
